The Evening Primrose root is biennial and in the first year will only produce the leaves. The flowers are a fine yellow colour, large and delicately fragrant, and usually open between 6 & 7pm, hence where the ‘evening’ comes from. The flowers are mostly fertilized by twilight bugs, especially in the early season, later on the flowers keep open for longer. The roots of the Evening Primrose are eaten in some countries in the spring, and the French often use it for garnishing salads, however the entire plant is edible.
